Top 8 Pride of Oriental Mindoro

Here I am again, writing another blog which is not about technology, not about love, not about current events, not about entertainment but about the island where I was raised and nurtured. I am bound to Calapan today when I conceptualized this idea of writing about my home town, Oriental Mindoro.

Talking about this, it serves as the gateway of Luzon area in reaching other provinces in Visayas. It has several municipalities, each of which restrains their own identity in terms of fishery and agriculture related endeavors.

I am from Calapan City and I have listed here the Top eight people who became known and gave honor and pride in their own chosen fields.

1. NOLI DE CASTRO – He is the first independent candidate to receive the highest number of votes in a Philippine senatorial election and the first elected independent Vice President of the Philippines, although he campaigned in both elections in an alliance that supported the Arroyo administration. He is currently the Vice President of the Philippines. He is from Pola, Oriental Mindoro.

2. Charo SANTOS CONCIO – Charo Santos-Concio or Charo Santos is a Filipina television executive, host, actress, and film producer currently hosts the network's longest-running drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya. She is currently the President of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, and plays a powerful role in TV and film production in the Philippines. She was once became Ms. Calapan City at her teen age.

3. LITO CAMO – Lito Camo is a Filipino singer and songwriter. He established his reputation more solidly as a composer instead of being a singer which was his initial dream. He is known for songs such as "Bakit Papa? Tawag mo ako?", "Spaghetti Song", "Bulaklak", "Wowowee" and "Otso-Otso. From Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro.

4. EJ FALCON – he became the grand winner in Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 3 of ABS CBN. He is from Pola, Oriental Mindoro.

5. JASON FRANCISCO – The Boy Astig of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro love partner of Melissa Cantiveros, and also became the Pinoy Big Brother Season 3 2nd Runner up. He happened to be my classmate in one of my subjects way back in College.

6. DIANA AREVALO – Became the 4th Runner up in the Binibining Pilipinas 2008.

7. RHAP SALAZAR – a great singer who bagged several awards in his chosen profession. Has competed several competitions locally and abroad.

8. RACHELLE BUSTAMANTE- Currently, she is the participant of Oriental Mindoro in Binibining Pilipinas 2010. She is from Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro

We are just an island (Oriental Mindoro) cut into half but this doesn’t mean that we cannot produce great politicians, artists and singers that promote Philippines around the globe. I did not include my name in the list but in my own little ways, I am.

To all of us, We do not know how far we can go but definitely we are all stars in our ourselves and in our own profession.
